Centreless grinder
"Centreless grinders" are used primarily for round work pieces (e.g. round steel bars and pipes) which are moved past one, but mostly several, grinding head(s) (grinding station(s)) while rotating. Pre-grinding, intermediate grinding and finishing on centreless grinders are mostly performed wet.
The abrasive tools used are agglomerate (long-life) abrasive belts.
As they are supported at several points, the work pieces are not subjected to any major flexural and torsional stress. This makes it possible to grind even thin-walled pipes and short work pieces as well as work pieces of nearly endless length with perfect ease. When used in combination with long-life abrasive belts, these grinders allow the user to grind an exceptionally high number of running metres of the material to be processed with a consistent surface finish.
